  • Booking Fees

    $150.00 paid in advance two weeks before your stay.

    Please note this amount is non-refundable if the booking is cancelled. In the event of a cancellation this $150.00 will be deducted off your final account.

    Day Charge

    Half day: $150.00.

    Full Day: $250.00

    Overnight Stay

    $20.00 per person

    Notes:

    • No charge for children under 5 years old

    • All pricing is exclusive of GST.

    • Tangihanga takes precedence on the marae. This may result in the cancellation of your booking at short notice.

  • PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY.

    All people visiting the Marae are to be familiar with these rules as they are designed with the Marae kawa and safety in mind.

    Tangihanga will take precedence on the Marae. This may result in the cancellation of your booking at short notice.

    Kawa dictates normally that the right-hand side of the meeting house (the ancestor’s right-hand) is to be occupied by the Tangata whenua (local people), while the manuhiri (visitors) occupy the left-hand side including the rear and then positions left vacant by the Tangata whenua on the left-hand side, starting from the rear.

    No alcohol or drugs on the property. Permission may be obtained from an Runanga executive member if you wish to consume a limited amount of alcohol in the Dining Room only.

    Food should be brought directly to the kitchen after the powhiri

    All baggage and bedding should be taken in to the Wharenui (meeting house) via the front doors after the formalities have taken place and not before.

    You will be issued with a key for the marae from the rūnanga office.

    Visitors are asked to respect the Marae Ātea by not leaving vehicles on the Marae Ātea This area immediately in front of the meeting house is to be kept clean and clear at all times.

    No eating or drinking in the Wharenui. Water is allowed in the wharenui.

    Do not place chairs or mattresses in passages or doorways. Areas near fire extinguishers to be kept clear at all times.

    The marae complex is smoke free. Smoking is only permitted outside the gates.

    Property belonging to the Marae is not to be removed from the premises.

    Any furniture that you need to move in order to facilitate your stay MUST be returned to its original position prior to your departure.

    On vacating the Marae, the Marae buildings and grounds are to be cleaned and left tidy. All rubbish is to be placed in the green wheelie bins.

    If children are at the Marae with you or your group, you must ensure their safety by providing a designated person/s to look after them at all times.

    Parents/caregivers are to supervise tamariki and teach them Marae kawa:

    • No playing in front of Wharenui during a pöwhiri or tangi.

    • No running/walking in front of speakers

    • No jumping on the mattresses.

    • No sitting on pillows or tables.

    • Beds are not to be used as chairs or lying on during meetings.

    A baby changing table is provided in the female shower room, please do not change babies or toddler’s nappies in the wharenui. Please place used nappies in the correct receptacle for disposal.

    No clothing to be draped over the heaters to dry.

    Moeraki Marae is a Smoke Free marae.

    The marae provides mattresses, pillows, sheets and pillowcases. You are required to provide your own blankets. The marae is also equipped with a laundry but we do ask you seek permission from kitchen staff prior to using the laundry facility.

    Exit lights are above the two doorways in the wharenui and must remain on at all times.

    It is up to each group to ensure that the marae is left as you found it - very clean and tidy. If not the cleaning bond will not be refunded.

    Note: It is the responsibility of the hirer to contact the Rūnanga Office to ensure confirmation of the booking and that any other requests can be met.

    If you do not turn up, the booking fee is non-refundable.

    If a powhiri, educational session etc. is required a charge of $50.00 inclusive of GST will be incurred to cover the costs involved for runanga members to be in attendance.

    A whanau member will remain at the marae during a group visit.

  • Tidy mattresses and bed clothes neatly, before breakfast. Do not sit on marae pillows.

    Do not walk over people while they are sitting or lying.

    Do not walk in front of the paepae. Walk around both lines of speakers at all times, avoid drawing attention to yourself when moving around, or leaving the whare.

    Dress is to be informal and tidy at all times. Formal dress is expected for the ceremonial welcome (pōwhiri). Preferably long skirts for ladies and tidy attire for men.

    Men sitting in the front row of the paepae DO NOT wear shorts.

    Do not sit on dining room tables or bench tops.

    Baggage / personal belongings are brought in after formalities, not before.

    Clothes are to be kept in suitcases/bags or neatly folded on top. Do not hang things from the walls, unless special pegs are provided.

    Our current tikanga is that visitors may wear shoes in our wharenui.

    In the event of fire, four (4) extinguishers are available:

    • 1 x in the kitchen near sliding door

    • 1 x in the kitchen/dining hallway

    • 1 x located near the male toilets

    • 1 x near the main door of the whare

    The First Aid Kit can be found on the wall in the kitchen opposite the sink.

    If the burglar alarm activates this will notify two of our whanau homes. As such, someone from these homes will be with you very soon after the activation. Please do not try to disengage the alarm.

  • These instructions are issued as a guide for the safety of all users of the marae.

    The life safety of all users of this building must take first priority in any evacuation situation. If any situation requires the evacuation of the building, the evacuation must be managed in an effective way so as to prevent loss of life, minimise injury and alleviate distress.

    A list of attendees must be maintained and accessible at all times during your visit.

    Key Aims

    This evacuation procedure is a method of ensuring the safe, expeditious and efficient evacuation to a safe place outside the building and is in line with the requirements of the Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations 1992, and approved by the New Zealand Fire Service.

    Process for Achieving Outcomes

    The Evacuation Plan and Procedure must be available for ALL USERS to be familiar with, and to be able to use in the event of a fire or other emergency that requires evacuation. Warden training must be carried out.

    If You Discover a Fire

    1. Raise the alarm immediately by operating the nearest fire alarm call point.

    2. Ensure that the Fire Service is called by dialling 111 and giving the following information:

    • Moeraki Marae

    • Tenby Street, Moeraki

    • Moeraki is situated between Palmerston South and Hampden

    • Rapid Number 4

    • What is burning

    • Location of the fire in the building

    3. Fire wardens check all people are out of each area, close all windows and doors and leave the building by the NEAREST safe exit

    4. Assemble all personnel at the assembly point which is signposted and located in the large car park across the road from the marae

    5. Roll call to ensure all people are out of the building

    6. Fire Wardens report back to Building Warden that all people are accounted for or who is missing

    7. Building Warden reports status to Fire Brigade
